The Perfect Michigan SUV Has Arrived: 2019 Chevrolet Equinox AWD 1.5L Turbo – Emerson Chevrolet

Some vehicles just make sense the moment you see them. They’re the right size, the right color, the right price, and they come from a brand you already trust. Right now, sitting front and center on our showroom floor at Emerson Chevrolet, is exactly that vehicle: a stunning 2019 Chevrolet Equinox AWD with the spirited 1.5L Turbo engine, finished in Nightfall Gray Metallic over Jet Black premium cloth.

This isn’t just any Equinox. This is the one customers ask for by name: all-wheel drive for Michigan winters, the fuel-efficient yet punchy turbo four-cylinder, the modern third-generation design that still looks brand-new in 2025, and the impeccable care that only a discerning previous owner can provide.

    Looks That Defy the Calendar

Walk up to this Equinox and try to guess the model year. Most people say 2023 or newer. The sharp character lines, floating roof design, and aggressive front fascia with projector-beam headlights and LED daytime running lamps give it a presence that competes with today’s newest crossovers. The 17-inch aluminum wheels fill the wheel wells perfectly, and the deep Nightfall Gray paint has a metallic flake that dances in the sun and turns almost black under streetlights—sophisticated, understated, and impossible to ignore.

Chrome window surrounds and roof rails add just enough polish to let everyone know this isn’t the base-model rental-fleet special. This Equinox was ordered by someone who cared about how their SUV looked pulling into work, dropping kids at Rochester Adams or Lake Orion High, or parked outside the country club.

Sized for Real Life—Without the Bulk

At 183 inches long, the Equinox threads the needle between cramped subcompacts and bloated three-row behemoths. Parallel park on Main Street in Rochester? No problem. Fit in your subdivision garage without folding mirrors? Absolutely. Yet open the doors and you’re greeted by a cabin that feels shockingly roomy.

Front passengers enjoy 41 inches of legroom and supportive seats that make I-75 commutes bearable. In back, adults sit comfortably with nearly 40 inches of rear legroom—numbers many “midsize” SUVs can’t match. Fold the 60/40 split rear seats and 63.9 cubic feet of cargo space swallows weekend gear for Traverse City, lumber from Home Depot, or enough groceries to survive a Michigan snowstorm that shuts down I-75.

The Powertrain Michigan Drivers Swear By

Under the hood is Chevrolet’s brilliant 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder producing 170 horsepower and—more importantly—203 lb-ft of torque that arrives almost instantly. Merge onto the expressway, pass a slow-moving semi on M-59, or climb the hills around Pontiac without drama. The 6-speed automatic shifts smoothly in traffic and holds gears intelligently when you need power.

Best of all, this Equinox is equipped with switchable All-Wheel Drive. Leave it in Auto mode and the system sends power to all four wheels only when needed—giving you the security of AWD in snow and the efficiency of front-wheel drive the rest of the year. When the forecast calls for lake-effect snow, one touch of the AWD button locks in full-time traction. Michigan drivers have trusted this exact system for years. It never lets you down.

A Cabin That Feels a Generation Ahead

Slide inside and the first thing you notice is silence—thanks to acoustic laminated windshield and active noise cancellation. Soft-touch materials wrap the dash and doors, while the driver-focused cockpit puts every control exactly where you expect it.

Standard equipment on this Equinox includes:

    • 7-inch Chevrolet Infotainment 3 touchscreen
    • Wireless Apple CarPlay® & Android Auto™
    • 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capable
    • Bluetooth® audio streaming
    • Six-speaker premium audio
    • Push-button start
    • Rear vision camera
    • Power driver’s seat with lumbar
    • Deep-tinted privacy glass
    • LED daytime running lamps and taillights

The steering wheel features audio, cruise, and voice-command buttons so your hands never leave the wheel. Dual-zone climate control keeps driver and passenger happy. And yes—the heat works instantly and the A/C blows ice-cold.

Safety That Still Leads the Class

The 2019 Equinox earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick award when new, and every one of those advanced systems is fully functional today:

    • Automatic Emergency Braking
    • Forward Collision Alert
    • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
    • Rear Vision Camera with guidelines
    • Ten airbags including side curtain and knee protection
    • Teen Driver technology
    • OnStar® capable (subscription required)

Drive it in rush-hour Troy traffic or on dark two-lane roads Up North—this Equinox is constantly watching out for you.

The One That Got Away—Until Now

This particular Equinox was traded in by a local customer who loved it so much they upgraded to a newer Chevrolet at Emerson. That means:

    • One-owner, local Michigan vehicle
    • Non-smoker
    • Clean Carfax®—no accidents, no stories
    • Complete service history
    • Fresh oil change and multi-point inspection by our Chevrolet-certified technicians
    • Four matching tires in excellent condition
    • Detailed inside and out—ready for immediate delivery

We see dozens of Equinoxes every month. This is the one we kept for our own showroom because it’s simply that nice.

I have the 2.0L engine, which is a significant upgrade from the base engine. With its power, it makes the car fun to drive and still gets great MPG. Like most American auto brands, you can get this vehicle at a significant discount under the "MSRP", making this a great vehicle for the price. So many people complain about the start/stop feature not having the ability to disable. Yes, it I agree it should have it, however, this system is the smoothest I've felt versus many other automakers. Because it is so smooth, it doesn't bother me at all. I usually can't tell when the engine turns off. Maybe this only applies to the 20.L and the 1.5L is more harsh. I'm not sure. Either way, it saves fuel and does its job very well. The Equinox's biggest downfall is the cheap plastics used inside. The most bothersome being the turn signal indicator (yes, I'm one of the few that still use it). It is very cheap plastic and feels like it'll fall off with every use.

Driving this is a pleasure. What I don't like is the pillar between windshield seems thicker than necessary and hampers view. The armrest is too far rearward and difficult to access the interior. The safety belt comes out of the door pillar tight against the plastic and I feel should be a half inch away so it would be easier to grab. The safety features are simply great, the seat fits great, the turbo gives plenty of get up and go, the AWD is fantastic on snow. All in all if the auto gives service for its lifetime as the first 1000 miles have, I will be very pleased.

Premium fuel recommended per owners manual and decal inside gas door. The government web site stated tested as premium. From what I could tell by reviewing an article or two the vehicle probably runs well but performance will be slightly less(prob includes mileage)with reg..The dealer never mentioned this to me nor did another dealer to a relative that bought the 2.0.Manual says use premium if it knocks.I had a chance to back out of our deal but didnt because this a low mileage vehicle for us-love the car otherwise.
