Battle of the Trucks: Comparing the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado vs. the 2024 Toyota Tacoma

There are a lot of great midsize trucks on the market vying for your attention. If you want a reliable truck with plenty of capabilities and advanced technology designed for your busy modern life, then the Chevy Colorado, fresh from a recent redesign, is the perfect choice. Sure, there are other options, like the incredibly popular Toyota Tacoma, but our team at Emerson Chevrolet Buick will show you why the Chevy Colorado is the better truck and the best deal. Find out why with a test drive at our dealership in Auburn, ME.

Putting Performance to the Test

The numbers are clear. Although the Chevy Colorado and Toyota Tacoma have similarly-sized turbocharged four-cylinder engines, the slightly larger 2.7-liter in the Colorado outperforms the Tacoma with 237 horsepower as the standard and 310 horsepower for the off-road-oriented ZR2 model. The Tacoma provides 228 horsepower as the base and tops out at 278 horsepower. The better power output means real capabilities that allow the Chevy to tow up to 7,700 pounds -  more than any other competitor, including the Tacoma, which tops out at a 6,500-pound max towing capacity.

Rugged Design

The Chevy Colorado and the Toyota Tacoma come with a fresh redesign and six trim levels to choose from, several of which are off-road focused. Both vehicles come in a four-door crew cab configuration, and the Tacoma has additional options for a larger cabin and bed length. However, the Chevy Colorado is more affordable and offers the same great features, like a handsomely designed interior with plenty of legroom and interior storage.

Advanced Technology

The interior of the Chevy Colorado sees a major upgrade with the most recent redesign. Every model has a large 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen as the standard setup, regardless of trim. The Tacoma has an 8-inch standard screen with the option to upgrade to a larger tablet-like touchscreen perched on the dash. We prefer the streamlined look and integrated feel of the digital screens in the Colorado, which also includes a digital gauge cluster and staples like wireless phone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto&trade, and the Google Built-In software that makes connecting your devices and accounts easy on-the-go.
