Elevate Your Everyday: The 2020 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring AWD at Emerson Chevrolet

Finding a vehicle that balances "practical family hauler" with "soul-stirring driving machine" is usually a tall order. Most crossovers lean heavily toward the beige side of life—functional, sure, but a bit uninspired. Then there is the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring AWD.

At Emerson Chevrolet, while we pride ourselves on our incredible Chevy lineup, we know a masterpiece when we see one. We’ve just added a stunning, high-trim CX-5 to our pre-owned inventory, and it is a masterclass in what a modern SUV should be. If you’re looking for a vehicle that feels like a luxury European import but comes with legendary reliability and a price tag that makes sense, your search ends here.

Sophistication in Motion: The KODO Design

Before you even open the door, the CX-5 makes an impression. Mazda’s "KODO: Soul of Motion" design philosophy isn't just marketing speak; it’s a commitment to aesthetics that stand the test of time.

The 2020 CX-5 features a sleek, aerodynamic silhouette that looks like it’s moving even when it’s parked in our showroom. With its deep, reflective paint finish and 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels, this Grand Touring trim exudes a level of class usually reserved for vehicles twice its price. It’s an SUV that looks just as right at a formal valet stand as it does at a trailhead in the Maine woods.

The Heart of the Machine: Performance and Handling

Under the hood, this CX-5 is powered by the 2.5L Skyactiv-G I4 engine. It’s a powertrain designed for the real world—providing snappy acceleration for merging onto the interstate and smooth, consistent power for city driving.

But what truly sets this vehicle apart is Predictive i-ACTIV All-Wheel Drive.

    • Maine-Ready: This system monitors everything from outside temperature to windshield wiper usage to predict when you might lose traction before it actually happens.
    • G-Vectoring Control Plus: This clever tech subtly adjusts engine torque and braking when you turn the steering wheel, making the car feel more stable and "planted" in corners.

Whether you're navigating a sudden spring downpour or a snowy commute through Auburn, this AWD system gives you the confidence to stay on the road while everyone else is sliding off it.

The "Grand Touring" Experience: Interior Luxury

Step inside, and you’ll forget you’re in a compact crossover. The Grand Touring trim is where Mazda really flexes its premium muscles.

    1. Leather-Trimmed Comfort

The cabin is wrapped in high-quality materials, but the centerpiece is the leather-trimmed upholstery. These aren't just seats; they are ergonomically designed thrones meant to keep you fatigue-free on long trips to the coast or the mountains.

    2. Heated Everything

We live in Maine—we know that "luxury" often means "warmth." This CX-5 features heated front seats that reach operating temperature quickly, turning those freezing January mornings into a cozy sanctuary.

    3. Let the Light In

The Power Sliding-Glass Moonroof is a game-changer. Whether you’re catching the first rays of summer sun or stargazing on a clear night, the sunroof opens up the cabin, making it feel airy and expansive.

    4. Tech That Works With You

The 2020 model year was a "sweet spot" for Mazda technology. You get:

    • Bose® 10-Speaker Premium Audio: Engineered specifically for the CX-5’s acoustics.
    • Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™: Seamlessly integrate your smartphone for navigation, music, and hands-free calling.
    • Quiet Cabin Technology: Mazda spent years refining sound insulation to ensure that road noise stays outside where it belongs.

    Safety Without Compromise: i-Activsense

At Emerson Chevrolet, we know that your family’s safety is your number one priority. The 2020 Mazda CX-5 was a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS, and it’s easy to see why. The i-Activsense safety suite included in this Grand Touring model acts as an extra set of eyes on the road:

    • Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go: Perfect for heavy traffic on I-95.
    • Advanced Smart City Brake Support: Helps prevent or mitigate frontal collisions at lower speeds.
    • Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert: Makes backing out of busy parking lots stress-free.
    • Lane Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist: Gently nudges you back into your lane if you start to drift.

    The Verdict: A Rare Opportunity

The 2020 Mazda CX-5 GT AWD is a "unicorn" in the used car market. It offers the luxury of a BMW or Audi, the reliability of a Japanese-engineered powertrain, and the ruggedness required for life in the Northeast.

With its combination of leather heated seats, a power sunroof, and a sophisticated AWD system, this vehicle won't stay on our lot for long. It’s the perfect upgrade for the driver who is tired of boring SUVs and wants a vehicle that actually makes them look forward to the morning commute.

I’ve had my Mazda 2019 for seven years. It’s been dependable and easy to drive. It has a lot of safety features that has saved me a couple of times with its braking system, when vehicles darted out at a collision spot. I’ve had no issues with it. This is my 6th Mazda in my many years of driving. From the Mazda 323, 626, 3 Sport, 6, Miata, and currently the CX-5.

When a car is nearly perfect, it is simply superior, not perfectly superior ;-) The 2018 CX-5 has been overwhelmingly my best and favorite vehicle of all time - I have had 10+. It's quick, it handles very well, provides great feedback to the driver, is super quiet, super comfortable - have driven long, long trips in it multiple times (NM to Utah, NM to WY, NM to MI, MI to WI, WI to NM). It's a delight in the snow, rain, dry pavement. The sound system is outstanding, the utility is excellent (slightly smaller than my 2013 RAV-4 but SO MUCH BETTER and that was a really good vehicle). Everything just works and always works. I got mine retro-fitted for Apple Car Play and it works great. I had a 1983 Mazda 626 and it was awesome! I had a 2004 or 2005? Mazda 5 and it was awesome! I have had a VW and it was NOT awesome. I have had a Ford and it was NOT awesome. I had a Toyota 4Runner and it was NOT awesome. My 2013 RAV-4 was really good! But I like AWESOME :-) So my next vehicle will be...drum roll... a Mazda!

This 2025 model year marks an transitional year after incremental improvments since its inception in 2013 - Still having physical buttons, switches and knobs instead of fully integrated settings in a virtual screen . Mazda is one of a few that still has a naturally aspirated engine without turbos and a real 6 speed geared transmission with a torque converter and timing chain . Only avaliable in AWD this drivetrain is bulletproof and reliable. Many newer vehicles have timing belts which require expensive service every 60-80k and you wilk feel that in your wallet - dealers love it because when owners realize this they balk and consider trading in the vehicle they thought was a lifer - So Mazda has an impeccable interior which rivals any vehicle at any price . If you use premium fuel in the non-turbo it boosts the power to a perfect level around 200hp - - these engines are 13:1 compression ratio which are fundamentally built to diesel specs to have this - which delivers excellent gas mileage - great low rpm torque and once you get familiar - a precision power delivery drivetrain thats unbelievably responsive - Its reliable to an absurd level , fit and finish is spectacular - and it handles like a sports car - as well better than anything in its class - How is possible at this price ?? Its the lineage of continually improving the vehicle with incremental changes year to year - nothing radical - thus rhe dies and presses that make this vehicle are already paid for -thus going back to college business class - the first " widget " is the most expensive ....the last is the least ...thus we have Mazda having low production costs due to limited engineering changes - but 2026 will be very different and 2025 in my opinion is the last in its legacy of many factors - . 2026 gets longer , wider , has integrated most switches into a giant tesla esque touch screen - and nore making 26 a departure from the long run of this masterpiece .
